He hails from Kampung Ayer Hangat in Langkawi. He has been involved in the field of painting since 2003 until the present day. At the start of his artistic journey, he began working with batik painting and later transitioned to mainstream mediums such as acrylics and oil paints. He is also skilled in creating sculptures and murals around Langkawi through various projects.

He enjoys drawing inspiration from the surroundings of Langkawi, depicting scenes of fishing villages, paddy fields, and everyday subjects that are often taken for granted. He likes to experiment with various artistic styles. Over time, he has incorporated elements of Cubism into his artworks, which is a consistent feature in his paintings. He prefers to use warm color schemes to evoke emotional responses in his artwork.

He has been a member of LAVAA (Langkawi Artist Visual Art Association) since 2009 to the present day.

His journey with LAVAA has been filled with both bitter and sweet memories. He is highly active in exhibitions, and many of his paintings have been sold to collectors, both locally and internationally.

As a full-time artist, he is committed to his craft. Sometimes, he takes time to indulge in the hobby of bonsai cultivation as a side interest when he needs a break from painting. MOHAMMED FATAH

Fatah is known as the Semi-Abstraction Artist. He produced well-illustrated works with a beautiful choice of colours. The subjects are usually the people he observed around him. The movements and the characters of the people give him inspiration, for him to create those ideas into masterpieces. Blue is his choice of colors due to the calmness and peace that he can derive from it. Not many textures on his canvas, only smooth rendering of layers of acrylic colors.

He holds some important job in his country. The job that relates closely to the development of youth, arts, and culture.

Mohammed Fatah has received various accolades and awards, namely :

  • 2015 The Winner for Arabic Exhibition in Paris France
  • 2008 The Winner (1st) for the Weather Friend Poster Competition
  • 2007 Special Award for Caricature Art Competition
  • 2005 Sulemaniyah Festival, Iraq

Artist’s Statement

Abstract art now lives in the art world in many forms. It is two- and three-dimensional. It can be vast or small. Abstract art can also be made with many materials and on many surfaces. It can be used in concert with representational art or completely abstract. Artists creating it often focus on other visual qualities like color, form, texture, scale, and more in their nonobjective work.

Some artists like Mohammed Fatah,  play and rearrange different shades of colors to express their thoughts, while others use lines and shapes to create images. And that’s called semi-abstract.

LIZA OTHMAN

Liza Othman who is better known as an actress in Malaysia theater, TV, and film, has lately seen immersing herself in painting.

She picked up the brush again in 2016, thirty-five years after leaving her Pre Diploma in Art and Design course at ITM Dungun, Terengganu.

She is actively pursuing painting as a preferred creative outlet, finding it as rewarding and satisfying as acting once was. She considers it as a transition from one art form to another; to one in which she has total control of the outcome, of a change.

In March 2023, Liza successfully opened an art gallery/studio/painting workshop/gift shop in Janda Baik called Karya Di Janda Baik.

To date, she has taken part in 12 group exhibitions locally and abroad.

LIZA ARIFFIN

Life is short, as I am a cancer-fighter, a nature-lover and a dreamer, I do fingerpainting to recreate my colorful dreams and imaginations.

Liza Ariffin is a Penang-born artist who loves working in instinctualist style. She is a  finger-painter who works primarily with her fingers and hands to create imaginary paintings of nature, flora and fauna, animals and anything involving the environment including the cities.

Liza is still battling Ovarian Cancer and its complications after being diagnosed with the disease in 2016. She took up painting as a therapy in 2018 to fight the depression that came with the cancer. It helped a lot and she later decided to keep painting to brighten her life.

Her artistic journey started in the first group exhibition in mid-2018, and until now she has joined 8 group exhibitions, most being the ones organized by ArtMarket Malaysia.

She hopes instinctualistic fingerpainting will be further recognized as a branch of art that will have many more lovers in the future. And she will keep on painting natural landscapes and mystical panorama to lighten her livelihood.
