Fuad Abu Bakar’s works are as diverse as the country that inspires him. In a genre that is best described as ethnographic Malaysiana, Fuad offers a glimpse of the Malaysian psyche and evokes nostalgic wistfulness through portraits of everyday people and buildings along with occupations that may be facing extinction. Moreover, Fuad’s ability to express himself through a variety of artistic styles from classical European to naive, and pop art reflects the breadth of his experience and training, which includes a stint at the Scuola Lorenzo de Medici in Florence, Italy. His vivid pieces regardless of medium project the holistic, humanistic approach he takes when studying his subjects. Fuad is the artist of choice for collectors in search of pieces that are not merely ornamental, but those that enchant and tell a myriad tales.
