Jean Lewis was born on 28 February 1953. He is a self-taught sculptor. His first sold work is a wood carving of a doll which he offered to his daughter as a Christmas gift and which he had to sell to a local collector. Unfortunately he had to accept the latter`s proposal, as this sale relieved the whole family being very poor at that time.

Since then this hobby turned to be a profession for him. He walked during hours along the Flic en Flac beach, showing and selling his small sculptures to tourists.

Jean Lewis had his first solo exhibition in Bambous, a village where he still dwells.

According to him, practising art is a kind of therapy. In this context, in year 2001, he started a school of sculpture for the younsters of the village with the aim to protect them and help them to lead a sane life, to face the social problems and stay away from the bad habits prevailing in the surroundings. Actually he has around 250 students attending regularly the art classes. In the same year, he was invited to attend the “International Symposium of Sculpture, Morges, Switzerland.” On different occasion he has participated in this activity. Once, he won ”The Public Prize”.

Since then, alone or along with his students he has taken part in different sculpture shows in Australia, Hawai, Senegal, France and Switzerland.
