NOR HARLIZA BINTI ARIFFIN

She was born in Penang. Raised in Alor Setar, Kedah, she is married and resides on Langkawi Island. She has a strong interest in the field of art and in 1989, pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Design at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM). She began her career as a batik artist when she took on part-time work for several companies and agencies on Langkawi Island that produced batik art for the global market. For the past few years, she has been working independently without affiliations to continue her career as a batik artist. Currently, she prefers working with batik materials and techniques.

Her batik workshop is deliberately constructed in an open manner, without walls blocking the view, so she can take inspiration from the surrounding natural environment. The artworks and decorative colors she creates reflect her own style and the natural world.

She has been a member of LAVAA (Langkawi Artist Visual Art Association) since 2014. Being part of this association has allowed her to gain knowledge and experiences by interacting with many talented artists.
Through her batik art, her hope is to raise awareness among the public about Langkawi’s batik style in her own unique way, so that everyone can come to appreciate it.
