Visual artist from Reunion Island, a French department located in the Indian Ocean. Graduated from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts du Port and the School of Decorative Arts in Limoges. Issue of a mixed race, she seeks to harmonize differences through her works. Inspired by the genealogy of each, for a better living together.
She sails between epochs and civilizations. She represents in her creations ‘the absence of the present’ which is underlined by existing multi-ethnic symbols or from her imagination as well as figurative or abstract forms.
Natural colors often used in dusty way testify a lived, the time, the earth, the universe. Each motif is an echo of a civilization. Her artistic expression stems from the practice of a ritual that connects the artist to the invisible world, physical, heaven and earth.
In her artistic productions, dusty and colorful particles gather on her various supports. This is the creation of the world. Born of ‘dust, you will return dust’ . Her painting evokes those things that exist in every being; energy, rhythm, movement, emotions. Pictorial elements, sometimes abstract, figurative suggested, such as symbols appear and disappear in a mystical and emotional universe. Testimony of an experience, an emotion, a story, an absence.

ABOUT
Fuad Abu Bakar’s works are as diverse as the country that inspires him.
His vivid pieces regardless of medium project the holistic, humanistic approach he takes when studying his subjects. Fuad is the artist of choice for collectors in search of pieces that are not merely ornamental, but those that enchant and tell a myriad of tales.
In a genre that is best described as ethnographic Malaysiana, Fuad offers a glimpse of the Malaysian psyche and evokes nostalgic wistfulness through portraits of everyday people and buildings along with occupations that may be facing extinction. Moreover, Fuad’s ability to express himself through a variety of artistic styles from contemporary, pop art reflects the breadth of his experience and training, which includes a stint at the Scuola Lorenzo de Medici in Florence, Italy.

Artists Statement
I have been active since the 90s, as an activist, art student, at that time living on Malioboro Street, Jogjakarta, from here I learned a lot about life and interacted with various groups, inspired by the theme of my work, the content and contents of my work, In 1999 I started actively creating work from various found materials such as wood, iron, nails, glass and plastic, then one day I observed and saw wood being cut to make furniture. I saw a lot of leftover pieces of wood that were only used for firewood. Then I made something, from used wood, the reason is that wood is good and cheap. Because I used to often be on the street, my work tends to be more social criticism, I reveal things through wood, I enjoy, and really enjoy working with wood, Besides, hundreds of drawings to look for ideas.

Arman Yaghoubi is no stranger to Malaysia. He migrated to Kuala Lumpur with his late father when he was a young boy. Even at this tender age, he was already very keen in art, especially installation art and sculpture. He is very conscious of the environment and uses many discarded materials for his artworks.
Young Arman Yaghoubi
Arman’s late father was Asghar Yaghoubi, was an art gallery owner, painter, sculptor and art teacher from Shiraz, Iran. In 2014, he was one of the participants in Langkawi Art Biennale 2014.
Arman Yaghoubi, following his father’s footsteps, had a very early start as a sculptor and art installation artist.
As soon as Arman discovered that Persatuan Pengurusan Art Malaysia is constructing an art village, he quickly contacted us and volunteered himself to help build an art village in Langkawi. His passion as an artist drove him to contribute a role in the construction.
Arman is young and energetic. He never puts his energy to waste.
The construction of the café at ArtMalaysia Art Village, Langkawi is almost complete. The café is constructed with several blank walls around it. These walls are meant to hang artworks. The columns are meant to hang sculptures and masks. The blank walls outside of the café is where Persatuan Pengurusan ArtMalaysia is searching for mural artists to put their works on these blank walls.
The café is surrounded by a chicken coop, plant nursery and wood-fired oven. The environment is conducive for artists to do plein air and tourists can have some refreshments while enjoying the murals and artworks.

The café is surrounded by a chicken coop, plant nursery and wood-fired oven. The environment is conducive for artists to do plein air and tourists can have some refreshments while enjoying the murals and artworks.
This is an Open Invitation to all mural artists to participate. This café is built to cater to Langkawi Art Biennale 2024 which is on 25 – 31 January 2024, with the theme RESET.
Langkawi is known as the Jewel of Kedah. Hence, we met up with Angkatan Pelukis Kedah or better known as APK, which was established in 1977, the second oldest art association. We shared our plans to organize Langkawi Art Biennale 2024 with the intention of inviting APK as a collaborator. We spent several hours on how we can work together to make this event a success. It was well attended by their President, Hajjah A’aishah Latiff; Secretary, Carol Anne and Treasurer, Intan Shuhada Azmi.
The whole session was very well-discussed. The whole meeting ended with a sumptuous meal and everyone are ready to put in their full effort for the making of Langkawi Art Biennale 2024.
The month of November is usually the tail end of rainy season in Langkawi. In spite of the rain, these construction workers are very determined to complete their work on schedule. They plan their work very well.
The rain comes and goes but their work never stops. When it is raining they prepare foundation beams strip footing and make plans to lay wall bricks and setup door and window frames. I am very impressed by their commitment and their attitude towards work and they never waste time. They certainly have very good work ethics.
Persatuan Pengurusan Art Malaysia (PPAM) has appointed Kian Creative Venture as the main contractor to make all necessary preparations for an international art event – Langkawi Art Biennale 2024 from 25 – 31 January 2024 at ArtMalaysia Art Village (Perkampungan Seni ArtMalaysia).
Although it is the rainy season in Langkawi, work is already in progress since 2nd November 2022. Every few days, building materials are loaded onto the site. The workforce is divided into 2 teams of contractors. One team is doing the renovation of an existing old house, while another team is building the café to cater to participants and guests that will attend the event.
As soon as Langkawi International Art Tourism 2022 (LIAT2022) ended on 4 September 2022, my contractor quickly dismantled the art booths and moved all the paintings to the store for safe-keeping. It was a very tiring week for all of us.
The success of LIAT2022 was very encouraging and continues to fuel the passion in me to make Langkawi, an international art destination. Without hesitation, I rushed to Kuala Lumpur to share with my friends on my plan to organize Langkawi Art Biennale 2024. I also started on the social media and started inviting international participants.
I have driven from town to town to have meeting with artists and art associations. I travelled on my old-faithful Land Rover Defender pickup. It is one of the most reliable 4×4 truck because it runs well on all terrains although it comes with very heavy maintenance on wear and tear.
I am overwhelmed by the unceasing responds shown by artists and art associations in making Langkawi, an international art destination. It’s not easy but yet it is not impossible. I always remind myself that “Rome was not built in one day”.
