Françoise Issaly is a visual artist who has been living and working in Montréal, Quebec, since 1993. Originally from the South of France, she studied Fine Arts in Montpellier and then Bordeaux before becoming an artist after moving to Canada. She teaches art at the University of Montreal and the Fine Arts Museum of Montreal. Additionally, she serves as the head editor of the Publishing House she founded in 2009.
Françoise creates paintings, photos, drawings, and installations in which different realities overlap, attempting to express the challenges of being in-between, oscillating between extremes and places. She strives to approach various subjects in a multi-layered manner, engaging viewers in questioning their perceptions. Her paintings present dreamlike images where abstraction and reality converge, meanings shift, and the past and present blend. Through the use of poetic language, she aims to enhance the dynamic between the audience and the artist by externalizing emotions and exploring the duality that arises through different interpretations. Her work has been exhibited in Canada, the USA, France, and Germany.
