I consider painting as “Self-discovery”. Every good artist paints what he or she is. My work very much shows my identity as a mother.
Most artists have one style to be known, but I’m still exploring. My work is indeed, a materialization of my youth, and my earliest ventures into art were inspired by my mother, a tailor who left me at my young age to work in Malaysia. She sent us so many clothes. Woven patterns, pleats, all manners of color— in a very real way, these textiles formed the fabric of my childhood. “It was my coping in a broken family, as well as integrating my experience into art.”
Using my own intuition and drive, I’m proudly a self-taught painter. I was a housewife from the start, and I run several small businesses (a store, canteen, salon), but painting was a hobby that developed into my true passion.
I want to contribute to society through passion or talent, I want to create art not just for myself or for fame, but for the new generation. And I hope they’re inspired to help out and pay it forward. My advice to young artists? “Don’t mind age. I started out late Everyone is on their own journey… but while you have a chance – don’t dally”.
Keep going through it— ESPECIALLY when it gets hard. And a special message to girls in the field— “There is a scene for your art, and your gender has nothing to do with it.” Lastly— “Give back! To your community! To the younger ones, the next generation”. Also to teachers – because they hold our youth in their hands… “Except instead of helping kids be safe, I hope my words will help kids to take risks, embrace their art— and let their craft take them places”.
The black backdrop in my “Belle Fleur” collection symbolizes all the dark times and failures I experienced throughout my art journey. I believe that it’s truly no limit to what a woman can do. My latest “Belle Fleur” series calls for women empowerment. I hope to inspire women to follow their passion, continue to reinvent themselves, and bloom!

My signature style of angular fragmented patterns done using precise linear markings and bursting vivid hues depict succinctly the emotional bond that exists between a mother and child. “The radiance of a mother’s love for her child is akin to the life-giving force of the sun. Its warmth envelops her child within a sphere of hope, joy and tranquillity that lasts seemingly for eternity”.
This can be seen from her marvelous creations where the mother and child’s warm embrace can be felt by the viewer. Another aspect I painted, focuses on Mother Nature. Undulating terrain steeped in kaleidoscopic patterns permeate the canvas surface to bring into being the majestic image of a surreal landscape. As the personification of a nurturing force which provides shelter, sustenance and growth, Mother Nature embodies the narrative of rebirth that brings about the promise of a better tomorrow for the future of Mankind and the World.
Every painting in the collection of my flowers symbolizes the diversity of women – soft, sweet, powerful; all silhouetted with golden linings – symbolic of rebirth and indestructibility. “No matter what a woman’s flaws and imperfections is, we are uniquely beautiful”.
The Lotus is one of my favorite pieces, a testimony of human resilience and unwavering spirit; also a flower often associated with rebirth and enlightenment. Latched in mud, it submerges in the river and blooms sparkling clean in the morning. Similar to life, we are filled with different problems and anxieties but we will always find a way to rise from one woman in bloom to another.
“Once you become a successful woman, remember to raise others. Start a domino effect through your kindness and always remember to stay grounded.”
