PARTICIPATING ARTIST
Françoise Issaly
Françoise
Issaly is a visual artist living and working in Montréal, Quebec since 1993.
Originally from the South of France, where she studied Fine Arts in Montpellier
then Bordeaux, she became an artist after moving to Canada. She teaches art at
University of Montreal, and the Fine Arts Museum of Montreal. She is also the
head editor of the Publishing House she created in 2009. She makes paintings,
photos, drawings and installations where realities overlap each other, trying
to express difficulties to be in-between, oscillating between extremities and
places. Issaly tries to approach many subjects in a multi-layered way,
involving viewers to question perceptions. Her paintings appear as dreamlike
images in which abstraction and reality meet, meanings shift, past and present
fuse. By applying a poetic language she tries to increase the dynamic between
audience and author by objectifying emotions and investigating the duality that
develops through different interpretations. Her work has been shown in Canada,
USA, France and Germany.
