Langkawi Art Biennale 2014 Marks a History in Malaysia's Art Industry

Kuala Lumpur, 28th May 2014 – A media interview for Langkawi Art Biennale 2014 (LAB 2014) was organised on 28th May 2014, 10.30 am at Seri Pacific Hotel. The interview was held to inform the public about LAB 2014 organised in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014 (VMY 2014). ArtMalaysia Association (AMA) as the organiser was represented by Mr Liew Kian Yap, the Project Manager of LAB 2014.

To be held for the first time ever in Malaysia, this event will take place from 12th – 21st October 2014 in Pulau Langkawi, Kedah. The event is targeted towards local and international art enthusiasts, tourists as well as the Malaysian public. The biennale will be held once every two years with YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, Malaysia’s fourth Prime Minister as its official patron.

The theme "Migration" has been chosen as the concept in the organisation of LAB 2014. The theme connotes the movement from one destination to another in which it can be translated through the call for artists from all around the world to display their artworks in Pulau Langkawi, Malaysia. Among attractive activities lined up for the 10-day biennale are Peletakan Orang-orang (Interactive Installation of Scarecrows), Gotong-royong Angkat Rumah and Friendship is Forever.

More than 250 artists from 40 countries will be participating in this event. Mainly supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia and Tourism Malaysia, AMA targets to attract not less than 2,000 visitors to the event. This in return will facilitate the purpose of VMY 2014 and therefore increase tourism receipts to Malaysia.
