A graduate of Fine Arts of the University of the Philippines, Sonia paints in oil, acrylic and watercolour, drawing inspiration from nature and her interest in antiques. Among her favourite subjects are old houses and those seemingly insignificant little things, which speak most of how people live their lives. Although it may purely be a sensory expression of a transitory feeling, the creative process begins with the written word, read and reflected upon, which when taken as a truth, finds its way into a canvas. She believes in the power of the visual, hence her deliberate choice to paint. Her works have been exhibited in Cebu, Manila, Cagayan de Oro City, New York, Paris, Kuala Lumpur and Kluang. Sonia is a former president of Cebu Artists Incorporated, involved in sustaining and nurturing the camaraderie in the group and actively participates in its activities.
