Shafie Hj.Hassan was born in Kedah in 1958. He is recognised as one of the finest water-colourists in Malaysia by Malaysian Watercolour Artist's Association. He received his art education at University Science of Malaysia and has participated in numerous local and international exhibitions. The awards that he received include First Prize (Figurative) PNB Art Competition and First Prize, UNESCO Poster. Shafie's art of realism is based on subject matters rooted in indigenous socio-cultural environment. He seems to be racing against time to record the bearing of traditional and cultural before they are swallowed by the inexorable trampling and modernity.
