She is born in Fukuoka, Japan in 1978. Studied design at Okinawa University of Fine Art, Rie Mandala has lived in many corners of Asia. She was in Bali, Indonesia then Taichung, Taiwan then Java, Indonesia where she furthered her studies in modern art at Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI Yogyakarta): National University of Art. She moved back to Japan and based in Kyoto a year after that. In 2006, she had been on travelling exhibitions in Bali, Canada, New York City, and Kyoto for 8 months before she moved back to Bali, Indonesia. Currently, she resides and creates art in Mexico. She also had the opportunity to stay and work as an artist-in-residence at Penang in 2011. As a prestigious artist, she had been enthusiastically involved in solo and group exhibition like "Whispers of Life" at 12 in KL that is organised by Japan Foundation, "Open Space" at Bledog Art Space in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia, "Return" at Ganesha Gallery Four Seasons Resort in Jimbaran, Bali, Indonesia, “#TEN” at RBS Gallery in Penang, Malaysia and many more.
