Goh Beng Kwan was born in 1937. During 1950s, he was tutelage under Singapore pioneer artists Chen Wen Hsi and Cheong Soo Pieng. In 1962, he studied at the Art Students League of New York with Sydney Gross, New York,Usa. In 1982, he won the Inaugural UOB Painting of the Year Award 1st prize. In 1989,he was awarded Cultural Medallion by the Singapore government. He is regarded as one of the vanguard artists that shaped the history of modern art history in Singapore in the 1970s.
