Celso Pepito
Pepito is a graduate of Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines Cebu College in 1981. Under the influence of Martino Abellana, his former mentor, he started as an impressionist- realist painter upon finishing his course. Later, his art shifted as he gradually move from realism to modernism. Seeking his own identity as an artist, his art evolved from impressionism to cubism, until he came up with his very own distinct signature style.
When we look and appraise a painting by Celso Duazo Pepito one will immediately come face to face with a brilliantly made work of art. His paintings reflect a strong spirituality, devotion to family, and a spirit of nationalism exemplified by subjects that are portrayed striving for self reliance and dignity through hard work and labor. Having built a reputation in the utilization of cubic simplicity in the making of his works, genuine sincerity stands to be an important element in the inner working of Pepito's signature style.
His paintings are usually made of three planar divisions used as backdrops to his chosen subjects. He is an unwavering believer that positive change in society will start in the family. This is why his works always and never fails to show and depict family. Second, is that of nation building and nationhood. Third, is his commitment to a continuing apostolate by utilizing his gift in painting.
With his belief on art as a reflection of the true, the good and the beautiful, Pepito has so much inspiration to bring his art not only around his country but also aims to showcase them in other countries like: USA, Luxembourg, Peru, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
