Eunice Mateo
PARTICIPATING ARTIST
Eunice Mateo
Eunice Mateo creates abstract art that merges
organic forms with psychedelic swirls, earthly textures with exotic surfaces.
She favours warm colours of the spectrum and specialises in blending colours
and textures while avidly exploring new techniques to load her surfaces with
character. Mateo strives for the right balance of colour, texture, depth and
heat in her paintings, and the result often seems to emerge from the canvas
itself. "The painting has to have its own soul. It has to come alive,''
she says. She lived for more than a decade in Thailand since 2002 and attended
Thailand’s International Art Festival & Workshop annually. She also held a
solo show in the Dominican Republic’s premier artist colony, Altos de Chavon in
La Romana. In 2012, she participated in the Ecorea Jeonbuk Biennale in South
Korea, and in 2013 she attended the 1st Annual Changzhou China International
Art Workshop and Festival. Starting in the summer of 2013, she has been based
in China. Mateo’s works are in private collections in Asia, Europe, the United
States, South America and the Caribbean.
