CATIJAMS

Visual artist from Reunion Island, a French department located in the Indian Ocean. Graduated from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts du Port and the School of Decorative Arts in Limoges.Issue of a mixed race, she seeks to harmonize differences through her works. Inspired by the genealogy of each, for a better living together. She sails between epochs and civilizations. She represents in her creations ‘the absence of the present’ which are underlined by existing multi ethnic symbols or from her imagination as well as figurative or abstract forms. Natural colors often used in dusty way testify a lived, the time, the earth, the universe. Each motif is an echo of a civilization. His artistic expression stems from the practice of a ritual that connects the artist to the invisible world, physical, heaven and earth. In his artistic productions, dusty and colorful particles gather on his various supports. This is the creation of the world. Born of ‘dust, you will return dust’ ….His painting evokes those things that exist in every being; energy, rhythm, movement, emotions. Pictorial elements, sometimes abstract, figurative suggested, such as symbols appear and disappear in a mystical and emotional universe. Testimony of an experience, an emotion, a story, an absence.

SUHAIMI FAZIR

Suhaimi Fadzir is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice is motivated by his non-traditional research-based practice driven by observing our history, culture, nature, context, and the intersections between science, art and architecture.

He studied art and architecture at Washington University, St. Louis, USA. He has won many art and architecture awards and grants and has exhibited worldwide, including the Venice Biennale (Architecture), Venice, Italy in 2010, 2012 & 2014, Meiji University Museum, Tokyo, Japan in 2011, the Dublin Biennial, where he won the Dublin Biennial Award of Excellence, Dublin, Ireland, in 2012, Art Basel Miami Week, and a
solo show organized by Saatchi Gallery London and M&C Saatchi, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in
2013.

His art practice has displayed a consistent sculptural quality, and his hybrid term “Archipainting” has been used in reference to his artworks, a concept that he developed in the 1980s which, blends fine art with structural intricacies and special deconstruction of architecture. History, collective memory, personal experience, and environment are elements he woven into a non-linear story where distinctions between present, past, fiction, imagination, and reality are nullified. These overlapping points of reference run throughout all his works and his paintings resist easy interpretation but rather suggest alternative possibilities of seeing. The interaction with the landscape around him is also reflected in his work, which comments astutely on the nature of contemporary society.

CAROLANNE MA

Throughout her entire life, she has been deeply immersed in various forms of art, particularly drawing, painting, and photography, although she has never received formal art training. During her formative years, she actively participated in and represented her school in art activities and competitions. At the same time, she joined the Kedah Art Association and was immediately appointed as Assistant Secretary. However, in 2018, due to debilitating health issues, she had to step away from formal employment. She began to embrace art as a form of healing therapy, primarily through sketches and colors.

The birth of her first grandson, who is autistic, opened up a unique opportunity for her to communicate and bond through painting and colors. She intends to bridge the gap between different communities in Malaysia, both able-bodied and those with disabilities, using her experience and knowledge in art teaching, art therapy, and her role as a grandparent to a particular child.
