Reflections on Malaysia-China Friendship through Art
Event Manager

The clock had almost struck midnight. While the artists were still immersing in their joyous dances and chit-chats at the beach side, Tan Sri Dato' Sri Dr. Ng Yen Yen sashayed her way back to the exhibition hall to view the works of art again! This time around, she couldn't keep her gaze off the paintings by Chinese artists. After all, one of the highlights of Langkawi Art Biennale is to celebrate the year 2014 that has been designated by both the governments of Malaysia and China as “Friendship Year” to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations! As Tan Sri observed each painting in detail, she discovered distinct artistic characters sculpted by the region’s geographical, social and cultural background that are exceptionally insightful. Being a vast explorer herself, Tan Sri engaged in an interesting exchange of stories in fluent Mandarin with some of the artists, who are also Professors from China's universities.
As she leaves the hall, Tan Sri comes across an attention-grabbing sculpture!
One of our participating sculptors, Maxine Xie meets Tan Sri again!
